  • M2TM Newcastle begins this Thursday!

And so… the road to Bloodstock for one North-East band starts here… it’s like the Rock/Metal version of the World Cup, except without Fifa corruption… ooh…

If you don’t know how it works it is quite simple – all the rounds are at Trillians this time – the very first heat being February 16th – that’s this Thursday.  Each heat, 4 or 5 competing bands will, err, compete, with two going through to the semi finals in May.

It’s a mixture of fan votes (that’s cheers to you and I) and judge votes scores the band who progresses – and last time there were some swung by the fans, some swung by the judges and some unanimous.

Kicks off at 7pm and entry is just £3

Across the heats we have some utter amazing talent – some re-entries from last year including finalists I’ll Play the Villain and some strong contenders – but many first time applicants who I’m looking forward to welcoming.

As said, each heat is £3 which gives a good chance to see some local talent for less than th
    e price of a pint.

Heat 1, ooh, this is going to be a tough one.  Four competing bands…

The running order of these will be decided on the night….

    So….

    Yersin  – local grind/punk/thrash

Kraken Waker – loud… ex Ten Ton Friday… riffs riffs riffs… beards

    Stoner Witch – stoner/doom/pyschodeliac

Blood Moon Bandits – rock n roll from Middlesbrough

    Annnnd… as a special treat

Last years runners up Dirty King will be playing a set as headliners, they won’t be competing – don’t vote for them cos your vote won’t count and we’ll still charge you the same phone bill. Or something.

    I dunno.

Let’s do this! See you in Trillians on Thursday!!!

  • Introducing : Lord of the Lost

A few days ago, when we announced the reschedulement of the KMFDM tour, we also announced that special guests would be Lord of the Lost.

It may well be that you already know the band – and if you like them you are probably quite excited about their appearance, it is their first time in the UK since three small dates in 2010.

They’ve had 4 more studio albums out since then… plus a live album, an acoustic album and an album with an Orchestra.

    They’ve been busy.

Before we continue – the Newcastle show is September 5th at Think Tank

    Buy Tickets Here

LOTL are a German Metal band, hailing from Hamburg.  Quite popular in some of the Gothic circles within Germany and they play fairly high up at the festivals there and have done multiple tours with many of the stalwarts on the scene.

Last year they were the guests on the European leg of the Combichrist/Filter tour but sadly could not do the UK dates.

They have been keen to build on their success on the mainland in the UK and this is a good tour to give them a platform.

Having such a large catalogue, where to start is a tricky one – so for some introductory listening…

‘Dry the Rain’ from Debut album ‘Fears’
‘Drag Me to Hell’ from new album
    and one from the middle…
    ‘Die Tomorrow’

  • KMFDM – Date Moved to September

Regretably, the KMFDM show scheduled for May 22nd has been postponed… however… due to fast work with the band, agents and venues, the rescheduled date is already confirmed and announced as September 5th at Think Tank.

Tickets are on sale from www.seetickets.com (clicky)

All tickets are still valid, however if you cannot make the new date, refunds available from point of purchase – online customers should have already received info.

We can also at this time announce very special guests on all dates to be Lord of the Lost.

We’ll be posting more about them very soon.

  • Souls of Jack Ketch : Special Guests in M2TM

M2TM 2017 begins next week.  We have 26 confirmed bands, including 4 re-entries from 2016 plus 22 entering for the first time this year.

We have just two slots left, so email kev@twfmagazine.com if you want to bag one.

We’ll be presenting details of the heats from next week.

We mentioned last week that Dirty King would be a special guest at the first heat, well, we’re pleased to report SOULS OF JACK KETCH, the 2016 winners, will be special guests on March 23rd.

They’ll be non-competing – but a good chance to show off last years winners alongside some of this years hopefuls.

    It’s getting exciting 🙂

  • New Tragedy video & album ahead of tour

In an upside down world being torn at the seams, Tragedy brings us all together by uniting two warring factions – Disco and Metal.

The video stars comedian/musician/author Dave Hill in a role reminiscent of Tony Manero in the classic film, Saturday Night Fever, except with a little less success on the dance floor. He admires a handsome and talented disco-dancer (Nobuya Nagahama) at the club, but every time our Tony takes to the dance floor, he gets caught up in metal mayhem. Eventually, Tony finds salvation in a Disco-Metal transformation, inspired by his favorite band, Tragedy.

The track is a new version of their version of Stayin’ Alive, taken from new album ‘The Joy of Sex’ – it’s out today and available to download from Amazon and other such sites.

The band are touring for this album very soon and play Think Tank in Newcastle on March 1st – tickets available here

Alex Comfort’s 1970’s sex manual, The Joy of Sex, was discovered by each of the band members when left alone in the house as a curious young man. Tragedy, with the advice of doctors and professional counselors, has created the first real Adult Sex Information Metal Album ever recorded. The Joy of Sex is for mature people who want to make their lovemaking richer and more varied.

These songs are presented alongside hand-drawn artwork, and discussed in unanxious practical detail, with reassuring authority and a sense of decimation.

“We are always being asked to graphically illustrate our lovemaking methods to our fans”, says Tragedy’s Mo’Royce Peterson, “and now, the whole world will be able to hold us in the palms of their hands and the drums of their ears, as we guide them through life’s carnal pleasures.”

The tracklist for the album is :

    MANEATER
    BAKER STREET
    DO YA THINK I’M SEXY
    FUNKYTOWN
    LITTLE RED CORVETTE
    BORDERLINE
    STAYIN’ ALIVE
    NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP
    DRESS YOU UP
    PHYSICAL
DEAR SANTA (BRING ME A GODDAM GENTLEMAN)

Like anything with Tragedy, you are sure of a good time and a good laugh.  Don’t miss this tour!

  • Dirty King : Special Guests at M2TM 2017 Launch

M2TM 2017 is almost upon us.  We have 26 confirmed bands, including 4 re-entries from 2016 plus 22 entering for the first time this year.

We literally only have a couple of slots left, so email kev@twfmagazine.com if you want to bag one.

We’ll be presenting details of the heats very soon – but – pleased to announce the first event at Trillians on February 16th will have special, non-competing, headliners Dirty King – they played Bloodstock in 2016 on the Jagermeister Stage and so it’s good to show off one of the talents from last year.

We hope to get SOJK in another show as non-competitng also 🙂

Stay tunes, watch this space – news coming soon…

I’m sure many are familiar with KMFDM – they are widely regarded as music pioneers, fusing the industrial and electronics of the early 80s with heavy metal of the time – and progressing and evolving with each albums.  They were a major influence on many of the industrial-metal and cross-over bands of the late 80s, 90s and beyond.

Coupled with the PIG show in March, we have plenty of scene-royalty coming your way.

  • Silent Thieves join Marco Mendoza tour

We’re pleased to announce that Silent Thieves are the first confirmed touring band to join the Marco Mendoza tour.

The tour hits Newcastle on February 11th at Think Tank Underground (The Head of Steam) tickets are already flying out – you can secure yours from this link here

More info on Silent Thieves below

SILENT THIEVES are three musicians that have spent many years forging their own paths in the music scene and
have found their way to the same point to form an entity that they can release their own kind of music onto the world.
The three members started writing, rehearsing and recording in the Spring of 2015. The end result would be
    ‘Silent Thieves’.
Andy Murray heavily influenced by the first band he saw live, Thin Lizzy, played in various heavy rock acts from youth
including an outfit poised to sign for a big future including drummer Adam Parsons (who ironically now manages the
‘new’ Thin Lizzy, ‘Black Star Riders’), until circumstances took a different turn. He then found himself touring Europe
and Canada for the next few years as lead guitarist for celebrated Scottish Celtic Rock band ‘Wolfstone’.
Since then he has established himself as a writer and session player for various artists, working with acts like
Coast and Smokie among many others.
Dave McIntosh was crowned ‘World Champion’ drummer in his once alternative guise as a pipe band drummer many
moons ago, at a time that would see him travel to places like New York and Europe. In his other role, he was the solid
beat behind Scottish rock band The Kut for nearly 25 years that would see him support many legendary acts as well as
playing the famous Marquee Club in London twice.
Mark Allison started in garage bands in his teens playing guitar and bass in whichever guise was needed. In his
twenties a host of his bands supported well know acts like Big Country and The Quireboys before he decided to go in to
a forced early retirement from music. Nearly 12 years later after suppressing the urge to fulfil his teenage dreams he
entered the musical path once more supporting artists like Nik Kershaw and finding recognition as a songwriter.

  • New show : Marco Mendoza

marcoalldatesMARCO MENDOZA TO RETURN IN FEBRUARY

With the sweat still fresh on his bass guitar after the most successful run of sold-out dates yet for The Dead Daisies, Marco Mendoza will return to the UK for an eight date tour stretching from Aberdeen to Southampton.

The multi-talented musician who has played with a list of some of the biggest names in rock music including Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Neal Schon of Journey and Ted Nugent to name a few, brings his eclectic show back to these shores.

With a background that bridges the gap between contemporary music in rock and pop, along with jazz, fusion and soul, Marco has a tonal quality to his voice, not unlike some of the greatest jazz and blues singers of the past that can easily memorise a crowd.

Some new material will be offered up on the tour along with some of the greatest hits by rock artists and beyond, and if its anything like The Dead Daisies current tour, tickets will potentially go very quickly.
